Gran Canaria PWA World Cup 2017

Victor Fernandez 2nd

Pozo delivered the howling winds it is renowned for over the last 7 days with winds approaching 50 knots accompanied with small waves for the Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival. Despite the small waves on offer, the action on offer was anything but small as the most talented wave sailors in the world produced a remarkable display to kick off the 2017 PWA Wave World Tour in spectacular fashion.

The final results were not only confirming the extremely high level of our top riders but were also proving a very promising NorthSails Next Generation.

Victor´s 2nd place:
In an extremely tight final against Philip Köster, the reigning wave world champ Victor Fernandez proved his ambitions to defend his title in 2017. He is in the TOP 2 now since 2006 in Pozo and his 2nd place at the event means a solid basis for his mission to stay on top this year. Fingers crossed for the next PWA wave event in Tenerife.

Adam Lewis´ 7th place:
Adam produced one of his best heats against Alex Mussolini in the single elimination to sit in joint 5th place and successfully ended Moritz Mauch’s comeback in the double, before running into an on fire Marcilio Browne meaning the Brit finishes the opening event of the year in joint 7th, which is his best result since 2012 when he also finished joint 7th in Sylt. Well done Adam.

The next generation already produced some great results for NorthSails, too.

15-18 Year Olds Girls
Nicole Bandini (Fanatic / NorthSails) recorded a perfect result in the girls 15-18 year olds fleet with three cut wins for the Italian. Maike Lang (NorthSails) walks away with a great third place.

Under 14s Girls
Julia Pasquale (NorthSails) takes 2nd with almost landing a forward loop on several occasions, which would have swung the decision in her favour to land on 1st.

16-18 Year Old Boys
Noah Vocker (Fanatic / NorthSails) looked to be in superb form in the first elimination as he claimed a deserved victory, but was then slightly out of sorts in the second elimination – still finishing 3rd – which sees him claim the overall title ahead of Jake Schettewi and Valentino Pasquale (Fanatic / NorthSails).
