2008 Vargas Windsurf Festival: Alessio 1st, Moritz 2nd

Young North Sails Team Riders Moritz and Alessio were celebrating a great success at the 2008 Vargas Windsurf-Festival.

Last weekend the Vargas Festival took place the 5th time. This event is organized by Marcos Perez in order to bring local and foreign windsurfers together, to have a good time and to get experience in competitions. The first time this year the fleet was divided into an amateur group and a pro amateur group for riders with worldcup experience.

In the amateur fleet there was a pretty good level, most of the participants showed loops and a big variety of wave tricks. Most of the riders were still spoiled from the extremely windy summer, when they could rig 3,5 and 4,0 sails almost every day; so some of the riders were not used yet to their 4,5 and 4,7 sails.

Two young sailors from the North Sails Team could make most of the conditions: Moritz Mauch (North Sails / Mistral) with 12 years the youngest participant and his friend and team mate Alessio Stillrich, 13 years old (North Sails / Fanatic). Both could collect a lot of points with the most versatile impression with front and back loops, good wave riding and other cool tricks. Both of them were using their new EGOs in 3,4 sqm. The first 2 eliminations Moritz was leading clearly and was going straight to the finals. Alessio even had to struggle back through the double elimination, but at the final he could show his bigger experience in competitions: 1st place for Alessio, 2nd for Moritz as well as big hands and lots of respect of the Vargas routiniers.
Thanks again for Marcos Perez and his team; with their passion and good organisation they ensured a great event. In the 3 days festival they even managed to include a kite event and a long distance race as well.
Congratulations Alessio and Moritz!
